Background

PyCon US is the largest annual gathering for the Python programming community, organized by the Python Software Foundation (PSF). As a global hub for developers, enthusiasts, and organizations, it fosters connection, learning, and collaboration around Python. In October 2022, we had the honor of contributing to our second PyCon US.

Challenge

2023 marked the 20th anniversary of PyCon US. The conference chair and director sought a creative way to celebrate this milestone while uniting the event's past and present themes into a cohesive and meaningful design.

Solution

For this special occasion, we collaborated with Thailand’s renowned graphic designer, Santahn Putakham, whose 20 years of industry experience made him the perfect fit for the project. Together, we developed a stunning mosaic design where each tile symbolized a specific year of PyCon US, celebrating the conference's journey and evolution.

To enhance the theme, we incorporated jade green, a color traditionally representing 20 years, into the event’s design. An interactive element was also introduced—hovering over each mosaic tile revealed the corresponding year, adding a dynamic and engaging touch to the experience.
